Lol. You would be surprised how many unfinished todo apps are on github, coupled with other kinds of crap-ware.

I have personally seen fantastic computational-biology and computational physics well written, top-class academic code on github. Academics now post on github, before they hosted the code on their own websites. By the way, I worked in academia a decade ago.
