I can definitely relate to having bigger pet projects than what companies work on. To be honest, most "software" companies do not need more than 2 competent programmers. I worked for a tech company with over 30+ devs and the "work" we were doing was way simpler my main side project. Software engineering field definitely needs serious restructuring.
