Great article. I wrote an article on why I dislike open-source and one of the reasons is that I have heard this kind of story over and over. The mental strain, the financial stress, and emotional drain. At least, you worked for Amazon and you were probably earning good money (assuming you were not sweeping ware-house). I know people who quit their job to work on their passion open source project which later became abandonware.
